WHERE WE STAYED IN CHIANG MAI

During our stay in Chiang Mai Itinerary, we lodged at the delightful Viangdara guesthouse, which truly added a touch of luxury to our itinerary. Situated conveniently within Chiang Mai Itinerary itself, Viangdara became our serene retreat between our excursions. The guesthouse boasted wonderful amenities including a refreshing pool and a charming seating area with tables, daybeds, and board games just above the reception. What truly made our experience exceptional was the warm hospitality of the owner and staff.

They were always eager to assist, keen to hear about our adventures, and infused the atmosphere with good humor (especially Becca’s playful jokes about my “food baby” from indulging in street food markets). While slightly pricier than other accommodations we had experienced in Thailand, at £30 per night, Viangdara offered excellent value by Western standards.

DAY 1 – CHAI LAI ORCHID

After spending one night at Viangdara, we embarked on our pre-booked one-night, two-day stay at Chai Lai Orchid, a recommendation from friends in the UK.

Chai Lai Orchid boasts several unique features:

  • It is the sole AirBNB globally where guests can stay with elephants.
  • They collaborate with the Chai Lai Sisters, a trekking company managed by indigenous Karen women.
  • The sanctuary has rescued five elephants from the tourism industry and provides a safe haven for many others.

Our pickup from the hotel was promptly at 8:00 AM, and we were driven about 45 minutes outside Chiang Mai Itinerary to their location nestled in the hills. The morning was dedicated to walking with a group of elephants. Chai Lai Orchid has dedicated land where they exercise the elephants in their care. We trekked with a family of five elephants up into the jungle for a late breakfast.

DAY 2 – TREKKING AND WATERFALLS AT CHAI LAI ORCHID

Choosing to stay back and explore Chiang Mai Itinerary was a wise decision. The following morning, we rose early to witness the mahouts preparing the elephants for their day. It was fascinating to observe the older elephants leisurely wandering around the vicinity, showing their comfort with the surroundings, including the nearby structures.

Post breakfast, our day took a thrilling turn. We were chauffeured up into the mountains accompanied by our guide, Chani, hailing from one of the local Karen hill tribe villages. Our trek spanned approximately three hours through lush forests, navigating narrow paths and aged bridges that only someone intimately familiar with the area could uncover.

DAY 3 – EXPLORING THE OLD TOWN

DAY 3 – EXPLORING THE OLD TOWN

There are hundreds of detailed itineraries out there, and this is not going to be one of them! My advice – forget about them, set aside a few hours and just walk. Stop off at temples, dive in and out of side streets and watch the world go by over a coffee.

The old town of Chiang Mai Itinerary is set in a 2km x 2km square surrounded by a moat, so just follow the streets around and see what you find. You can read all the itineraries you want, but you’re unlikely to miss too many of the big attractions if you just give yourself time.If you’re still desperate to know what’s out there, here are a few things that we happened across whilst we were out for our wander: temples, traditional markets, historic architecture, quaint cafes, and local street art.

WAT JEDLIN

Explore the serene beauty of Chiang Mai Itinerary at Wat Jedlin, the city’s second oldest temple. One of its charming highlights is the picturesque carp pond adorned with colorful flags, creating a tranquil oasis. A bamboo bridge gracefully spans the pond, where delicate lilypads float on the water’s surface, enhancing the peaceful atmosphere. During our visit, we were delighted to witness hundreds of enthusiastic schoolchildren arriving to feed the fish, adding a lively and heartwarming touch to this ancient temple’s ambiance. Wat Jedlin offers a perfect blend of historical significance and natural charm, making it a must-visit stop on your Chiang Mai itinerary.

WAT CHEDI LUANG

During our visit to Chiang Mai Itinerary, we were fortunate to experience the vibrant atmosphere of the annual City Pillar Festival centered around Wat Chedi Luang. This historical temple, located at the heart of the city, forms part of a complex that includes the revered city pillar and other significant temples like Wat Phan Tau.

As we arrived, the preparations for the festival were in full swing. One of the captivating rituals we witnessed involved a monk dressed in traditional orange robes, meticulously winching canisters filled with water up to a towering golden statue of Buddha. The water was then ceremoniously poured over the shrine, adding a profound spiritual element to the festivities.

WAT PHAN TAO

During your visit to Chiang Mai Itinerary, don’t miss exploring the serene beauty of Wat Phan Tao, a captivating Buddhist temple nestled in the heart of the city. This ancient temple, constructed entirely of teakwood, showcases exquisite traditional architecture and intricate carvings. Begin your day with a peaceful stroll through the temple grounds, admiring the ornate details of its structures. Discover the tranquility of the meditation spaces and the serene atmosphere filled with spiritual energy. Wat Phan Tao offers a glimpse into Chiang Mai’s rich cultural heritage and provides a perfect escape from the bustling streets.

WAT CHIANG MAN

WAT CHIANG MAN

Explore the rich history of Chiang Mai Itinerary with a visit to Wat Chiang Man, the city’s oldest temple located near the northern edge of the old city. This serene temple complex features remarkable architecture and cultural significance. One of its standout attractions is the Phra Kaew Khao, also known as the Crystal Buddha, housed within one of the temple buildings. Admire the intricate design and spiritual aura of this sacred site, where elephant statues symbolically hold up a pillar, showcasing the region’s reverence for nature and tradition. Wat Chiang Man offers a captivating glimpse into Chiang Mai Itinerary past and spiritual heritage, making it a must-visit destination on your Chiang Mai itinerary.

COOL SIDE STREETS

To truly fall in love with Chiang Mai Itinerary, embrace its enchanting, narrow, and slightly higgledy-piggledy side streets. These streets, overrun with lush greenery and adorned with colorful plants, often conceal delightful surprises. Picture a scene where a car is parked against a wall swallowed by climbing vines—a charming blend of urban living and nature’s touch. Wander down these intriguing pathways that may seem like dead-ends or mere driveways, yet each holds its own mystery. Some unveil hidden temples steeped in history, while others lead to cool, tucked-away cafes brimming with local flavors. Exploring these secret corners is the perfect way to uncover the soul of Chiang Mai Itinerary and create unforgettable memories of its unique allure.

DAY 4 – THAI COOKING CLASS

Exploring the culinary delights of Chiang Mai Itinerary is a must on any itinerary, with Thai cooking classes being a standout recommendation. Our decision to join a class stemmed from a mix of desires: my craving for endless spring rolls and a practical urge to avoid pricey Thai restaurants back home. The truth is, just before our departure from the UK, friends suggested a class at ThaiCookingFarm.net, which aligned perfectly with our own motivations!

We enrolled in a full-day course at ThaiCookingFarm.net after reading countless glowing reviews. At £32.50 each for the entire day, inclusive of transportation, a recipe book, and all meals (seriously, skip breakfast!), the value was undeniable. You’ll eat plenty during the day, making it well worth the investment in our Chiang Mai Itinerary experience.

DAY 5 IN Chiang Mai Itinerary– SILVER TEMPLE, DOI SUTHEP AND THE SUNDAY MARKET

DAY 5 IN Chiang Mai Itinerary– SILVER TEMPLE, DOI SUTHEP AND THE SUNDAY MARKET

Today’s itinerary begins with a visit to the magnificent Silver Temple, located just outside the old city. This unique temple is adorned entirely in silver and boasts intricate statues and ornate metalwork. While only men are permitted inside the main temple hall, the surrounding grounds are stunning and definitely worth exploring.

Next, we journey up to Doi Suthep, offering the best panoramic views of Chiang Mai Itinerary from its hilltop temple. To get there, take a taxi to the Chiang Rai Zoo (we recommend using Grab, Southeast Asia’s equivalent of Uber). From there, you’ll find red songthaew taxi trucks waiting to transport visitors up the mountain. The taxi ride from the Silver Temple costs about 80฿, and the ascent in the red truck is around 40฿ per person. Be prepared for a winding 20-minute journey—consider taking a motion sickness tablet if
